McCauley Mountain Ski Area in Old Forge, NY

McCauley Mt. in Old Forge.

After some disappointing warm weather and rain (a four-letter word in ski country), several resorts benefited from lake effect snow this week. Freezing temps are back, which means everyone has their snowmaking systems on full blast.

Temperatures are predicted to plummet over the next week, with blustery winds. Our favorite meteorologist predicts that wind chill values may register as low as -4 degrees F, which may cause frostbite in exposed areas.

While these are excellent snowmaking conditions, they remind us to cover up exposed skin, take frequent breaks inside ski lodges, and stay hydrated. Also, dress appropriately in warm, moisture-wicking layers (cotton can kill in cold weather).
