Step back in time to experience Fort Ticonderoga during its final winter under British garrison control. Discover the tireless efforts of soldiers as they labor to restore this historic stronghold, a remnant of the French and Indian War, all while the chill of winter blankets the landscape.

Delve into the daily lives of these soldiers as they gather firewood to stave off the cold and craft fur caps to keep warm against the biting winds. Witness the meticulous preparations of the British military as they ready themselves for the harsh winter months in the rugged terrain of colonial Canada.

A strategic location during America’s Colonial Era.

Historic Fort Ticonderoga is located at the southern end of Lake Champlain, which stretches north for nearly 125 miles. New York borders it to the west and Vermont to the east. Lake Champlain extends into the Canadian province of Quebec at its northern end.

In the 18th century, Lake Champlain served as an important trade route connecting New York to Canada. Cargo vessels would navigate up the Hudson River from New York Harbor, and at Fort Edward, their goods could be transferred to Lake Champlain for transport further north into Canada.
