Clothing & Gifts

“Fashion is the armor to survive the reality of everyday life.”

Bill Cunningham

Just because ADK activities don't necessitate haute couture doesn't mean fashionistas aren't welcome. Double negatives aside, some simple facts about Adirondack living require a skilled sartorial strategy.

For starters, we are a proper four-season region. And sometimes, we experience two or three seasons in one day. Temps may reach the high 80s mid-day and drop to the 50s at night. Or a subzero morning turns into a 40-degree cocktail hour. We're not making that up. Seriously.

Second, with myriad recreational pursuits for every season, travelers need to be prepared. In summer, that means swimsuits, hiking apparel, tennis clothes, tetherball jumpers or whatever you plan to do. Wintertime is about skiing, skating, sledding, ice fishing, snowmobiling and sipping hot beverages next to a fire.

We're not advocating overpacking. Think layers and multi-purpose, multi-function wardrobe options. And remember, almost every town in the ADK has excellent shopping opportunities. So when you're packing for your next trip to the ADK, leave a little extra space for that "I just had to have it" purchase from any of our fantastic shops.
