Winter Weekends at Great Camp Santanoni Near Newcomb

Visit an Adirondack Great Camp in winter. Great Camp Santanoni will host three winter weekends in 2025 when visitors can cross-country ski or snowshoe to go in the Gate Lodge and Main camp buildings. AARCH (Adirondack Architectural Heritage) volunteers will provide interpretive tours.

The first weekend begins on Saturday, January 18 to Monday, January 20, 2025.
The Artist’s Studio, a stone building near the main camp on the shores of Newcomb Lake, will be open as a warming hut. Bring a cup (or use one onsite) to enjoy complimentary coffee, tea, or hot chocolate by the wood stove.
The Adirondack Interpretive Center will provide snowshoes at the Gate Lodge for visitors without their own.
The Gate Lodge and Artist’s Studio will be open 10-3 each day
About Great Camp Santanoni.
The Great Camp’s first buildings were erected during 1892-93, and later, more buildings were added at the start of the twentieth century. In 1987, Santanoni was listed on the National Register of Historic Places, and in 2000, it was declared a National Historic Landmark.
Great Camp Santanoni is located within the 13,000-acre Santanoni Preserve, established in the 1890s by Robert and Anna Pruyn, a prominent couple from Albany, NY.
Santanoni is one of the earliest of the Great Camps that the Vanderbilts, Rockefellers, Morgans, and other giants of the Gilded Age built in the Adirondack Park as lavish wilderness playgrounds.

The Santanoni Partners, which includes Adirondack Architectural Heritage, the Town of Newcomb, and the Department of Environmental Conservation, established the dates for the 2025 Santanoni Winter Weekends:
January 18-20
February 15-17
March 15-16
Winter conditions can change quickly in the Adirondacks, especially in the backcountry. Be prepared with extra warm clothing and adequate supplies for your trip.
