“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim”
An anime fantasy for LOTR fans in Indian Lake.
Indian Lake Theater presents “The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim,” a 2024 anime fantasy directed by Kenji Kamiyama from a screenplay by Jeffrey Addiss, Will Matthews, Phoebe Gittins and Arty Papageorgiou. It is based on characters created by J. R. R. Tolkien.
The film is set 183 years before the events chronicled in the original Lord of the Rings trilogy. "The War of the Rohirrim" tells the fate of the House of Helm Hammerhand, the legendary King of Rohan.
A sudden attack by Wulf, a clever and ruthless Dunlending lord seeking vengeance for the death of his father, forces Helm and his people to make a daring last stand in the ancient stronghold of the Hornburg - a mighty fortress that will later come to be known as Helm's Deep.
Helm’s daughter, Héra, finds herself in an increasingly desperate situation. She must summon the will to lead the resistance against a deadly enemy intent on their destruction.
According to Deadline magazine: "The War of the Rohirrim focuses on a character from the book’s appendix, the mighty King of Rohan, Helm Hammerhand, and a legendary battle which helped shape Middle-earth heading into Lord of the Rings.”
The anime movie expands the untold story behind the fortress of Helm’s Deep, delving into the life and blood-soaked times of Hammerhand. Overall, the movie is a companion piece to the Lord of the Rings trilogy and is set roughly 200 years before those movies during the third age.
“The Lord of the Rings: The War of the Rohirrim” is rated PG-13 for strong violence.
Movie showtimes are Thursday through Saturday at 7 pm. Sundays at 2 pm with open captions.
