Get Away From it All at Timberlock on Indian Lake
The OG of Family Resorts in the Central Adirondacks.
We are all feeling the effects of the digital age — anxiety, sleep problems, weight gain, depression and worse. Many experts attribute the problem to digital overload — too many screens, 24 hours a day, with no fresh air, natural light, or human interaction. If this sounds familiar, don’t you deserve a break?
Take the rustic, but not rough, cure at Timberlock.
If you’re ready to put down your device and take a reset, we can’t recommend a better place in the Adirondacks than Timberlock.
This timeless getaway is a rustic resort that lets guests connect to the magnificent lakeside setting and focus on time with family and friends.
It’s one of the longest-running summer family resorts (since 1899) in the Adirondacks for a reason; they know how to keep it rustic, natural, and informal without ever making it rough or uncomfortable.
Unplug, unwind, relax and recharge.
Guests at Timberlock can choose to stay in a lake view cabin with a full bath (yes, indoor plumbing), sitting room, open deck, or screened-in porch. Large cabins can sleep up to eight, while smaller cabins can be used for two to three people.
Some cabins lack baths, but “trail johns” are steps away, complete with a toilet, sink and hot shower. Before you cross them off your list, they are often located directly on the water, so guests have exceptional, private access to the lake.
Timberlock cabins are still heated with wood stoves and lit with gas lamps. They don’t have electricity or cell reception. And if you haven’t figured it out by now, there is no wifi.
An all-inclusive stay.
The daily rate includes three meals on the beautiful dining porch overlooking the lake (the views are killer). Menus vary and include traditional meat dishes and vegetarian options. And, as often as possible, ingredients come from Timberlock’s gardens.
Architectural Digest included Timberlock on its list of the Seven Most Beautiful Hotels in the Adirondacks and applauds the resort’s back-to-basics ethos: “Like summer camp, the minimal tree-tucked structures are merely launchpads for classic pursuits like fishing and canoeing to archery and tennis.”
As far as how you’ll spend your time, Timberlock’s website sums it up best: do what you want when you want. Many guests take this chance to recharge, sleep and read, take a relaxing swim and enjoy the peace and tranquility.
If that’s not your bag, there are many activities for the whole family to enjoy:
A large sandy swimming area with a dock and a swing rope, float, giant 25’ water trampoline, and a variety of beach toys
A fleet of Hobie sailboats, Sunfish, and a Precision Daysailer
Canoes, planned early morning group paddles, picnic excursions, and day trips to other lakes and rivers
Kayaking
Rowboats, dory, and guide boats for fishing
Stand up paddleboards
Motorboating -- you can bring your own, and dock space is provided on a first-come-first-serve basis
Hiking
Fishing
Water skiing and wakeboarding
Three all-weather tennis courts and two pickleball courts
Access to great biking

Volleyball
Woodshop, horseshoes, badminton, ping pong, tetherball, frisbee golf, and a sports field
