Friends Lake Inn, Chestertown, NY
A long-time favorite destination for upscale accommodations and fine dining in the Adirondacks.
A venerable institution for gourmet dining and luxury lodging, Friends Lake Inn has been operating for around 40 years. Constructed in the 1860s as a boarding house for tannery workers, the Inn was turned into tourist lodging in the early 20th century. In the 1980s, it was converted into an upscale inn and gourmet restaurant. Various owners have made numerous upgrades since then, including completely renovating all rooms within the last five years.
Its current incarnation is a beautiful inn with 18 unique rooms, each with luxury appointments like plush robes, exquisite pillows and bed linens, high-speed wifi, and individual climate control. Many rooms feature gas or wood-burning fireplaces, jacuzzi or soaker tubs, steam showers, balconies or porches, and private entries.
For added privacy, the Inn also offers a luxury cabin on the property that sleeps four with a king bed and sofa sleeper. The cabin features a private screened-in porch, full kitchen, cast iron stove, luxury bed linens, plush robes, high-speed wifi and a private outdoor fire pit surrounded by Adirondack chairs. Guests can pre-order food items from the Inn and arrive to a stocked fridge, including wine.
The property includes nature trails for hiking or x-country skiing and snowshoeing in the winter. And guests are close to Gore Mountain for downhill skiing, rafting on the Hudson River, miles of hiking and biking trails, and the Lake George area for pursuing boating and water activities.
The Friends Lake Inn has long been a destination for foodies. The recipient of numerous dining awards, including Wine Spectator’s Award of Excellence, the Inn is consistently featured in the Adirondack’s “Best Of” lists. The restaurant and casual bistro offer contemporary American fare featuring beef, chicken and seafood entrees, and vegetarian options. Guests can opt into a dinner meal plan as part of their lodging. All inn guests are treated to a made-to-order breakfast daily.
Whether you’re looking for a delicious dinner or a luxury stay, Friends Lake Inn can accommodate you.
