Help Support the Kemp Animal Sanctuary
Visit Nettle Meadow’s Hitching Post Tavern for a yummy fundraiser for a great cause.
One of our favorite places in the Adirondacks is Nettle Meadow Farm and the Kemp Animal Sanctuary. We first discovered Nettle Meadow Farm’s incredible, award-winning cheeses when shopping at Oscar’s Smokehouse in Warrensburg.
When we visited the farm during Thurman Maple Days, we were delighted to find that not only are they raising happy critters to make great cheese, but they are also caring for an entire Ark of creatures at the Kemp Sanctuary, which is part of Nettle Meadow’s farm.
A fund-raiser to support animals in need.
On Sunday, May 5, they are hosting an event at The Hitching Post (their retail store and fantastic restaurant) in Lake Luzerne to raise funds for the Kemp Sanctuary. Tickets are $25 per person and include admission and:
Delicious food
Live music
Silent auction and raffles
An opportunity to meet some of the Kemp Sanctuary’s furry friends
Caring for a menagerie of special animals in the Southern Adirondacks.
The Kemp Animal Sanctuary is a tax-exempt organization under the 501(c)3 code. It houses more than 130 sanctuary animals, including horses, cows, llamas, sheep, donkeys, chickens, ducks, turkeys, pigs and mini-pigs, cats, bunnies, peacocks, and many others. The sanctuary also houses sheep and goats from Nettle Meadow's farm that are either old or differently abled.
Many of these animals were forced to leave their homes due to unfortunate circumstances, particularly since the COVID-19 pandemic. For instance, in 2022, when a neighboring farm had to close down suddenly, the Kemp Sanctuary took in 12 kids (young goats, not small children) who had nowhere else to go at the time.
In 2022, the Kemp Sanctuary spent over $800 per week to provide basic feed, medications and supplements for the animals. In addition, the cost of staff who help keep the animals clean, fed, watered and healthy is even higher every week.
As a non-profit organization, Kemp Sanctuary solely depends on donations to operate. ADK Taste kindly requests you consider attending the benefit event on May 5, 2024, to support this great cause. If you cannot attend, you can still donate online through their website.
Please note that all donations are tax-deductible; every contribution goes 100% towards feeding the sanctuary's animals. Kemp Sanctuary and its animals are immensely grateful for the support they receive from donors.
