The Sagamore Resort

If resort life is your jam, look no further than the Sagamore Resort in Bolton Landing.

Of the modern resort hotels of the Adirondacks, The Sagamore Resort is possibly the most modernized and acclimatized to contemporary ideas of what a resort should offer. We think it’s safe to say this is the most resortiest resort in all of the ADK.

The Sagamore Resort sits on a 70-acre private island (accessible by car). Guests partake in typical resort activities, including an 18-hole Donald Ross-designed golf course, tennis, water sports, hiking trails, a large fitness center, yoga, guided private hikes, pools, boating, and sunset cocktails.

We like to visit in winter when the resort erects an ice bar as part of Lake George’s annual Winter Carnival. But it’s still a magnificent property to see in any season, especially from the water. Architectural Digest named it as one of the 7 Most Beautiful Hotels in the Adirondacks.

There are many accommodation options for guests. It’s a big place, and, let’s be frank, I’m too tired to list them all here. In short, find your perfect lodgings among historic hotel rooms, lakeside lodges, 12 bi-level suites and individually decorated condominiums. The resort’s map is helpful for determining where you might want to locate yourself while at the Sagamore.

All the rooms at The Sagamore are smoke-free and feature amenities like high-speed wireless Internet access, in-room refrigerators, and HD televisions.

So, what are you going to do all day? First, there are a crazy number of on-property options. As we mentioned earlier, there is golf. And not just any run-of-the-mill course. We’re talking about a course designed and built under the supervision of the legendary Donald Ross, designer of famed courses at Pinehurst, Aronimink Golf Club, East Lake Golf Club, Seminole Golf Club, Oak Hill Country Club, Glen View Club, Memphis Country Club, Inverness Club, Miami Biltmore Golf Course and Oakland Hills Country Club.

The Sagamore's par 70, championship course commands stunning views of Lake George and was designed and built under Donald Ross's personal supervision in 1928.

If golf’s not your bag, there are indoor and outdoor heated waterfront pools with breathtaking views of Lake George. Spanning 10,000 square feet, the outdoor terraced pool deck sits next to an impressive 95,000-gallon swimming pool and features 250 chaise lounges as well as a separate warming pool.

After a swim, soak up the sun on a comfortable lounger while gazing at the beautiful Adirondack Mountains with some refreshments from Splash Pool Bar - or better yet, order cocktails and light bites delivered right to your pool chair.

When the weather is no bueno, enjoy the sheltered 33,000-gallon indoor pool with an open-air concept that also overlooks the lake. Relax in the hot tub or read a book in the lounge area regardless of the weather outside.

And is now the time to talk about the 10k square foot rec center? Guest can enjoy:

  • Mini-Golf Course

  • Wiffle Ball

  • Nintendo Wii and X-Box Stations

  • Indoor Basketball

  • Table Games – Billiards, Foosball and Ping Pong

  • Rock Climbing Wall

That should give you a good idea of what’s on offer at The Sagamore Resort, and that’s not even delving into the mountain trails for hiking and biking, skiing, boating, and places for shopping and dining nearby.
