Whiteface’s Annual Pond Skim
It's the annual Adirondack end-of-ski-season ritual.
Get ready for the return of everyone’s favorite spring skiing tradition at Whiteface. Dive into the excitement and test your skills at the annual International Pondskimming Competition.
What is a Pond Skim?
Ski resorts host Pond Skim or Slush Cup events in the spring as the ski season comes to a close. Participants dress in creative and wacky costumes and try skiing or snowboarding across an artificial pond.
Winners are selected based on their ability to stay dry, create the biggest splash, and showcase the best style both on and off the water.
Register early at Whiteface Guest Services: Space is limited.
To reserve your spot, make sure to visit Whiteface’s Guest Services on Saturday morning between 8 am and 11 am. It's crucial to act fast because sign-ups are restricted to the first 100 contestants.
Make sure to bring your A-game and your most creative costume if you plan to win.
Competitors may benefit from the expertise of Pond Skim professionals, who offer valuable advice and guidance on how to navigate the event successfully:
Tips up, but keep your skis and board flat for the best chance of making it across the pond
Go as fast as you can and full speed ahead to go straight through the pond
Wax the boards before you go
Dress to impress
Bring a towel and a change of clothes
Wear a helmet
Leave your poles behind
Most importantly, have fun.
And just remember, it’s not a real pond-skimming party until someone ends up wet.
If getting wet isn’t your style, catch the action at noon on the Round-A-Bout trail to cheer on the fearless competitors from the sidelines or watch from the lively atmosphere of the Cloudspin Deck.
