An Adirondack Tradition: The Swix Lake Placid Loppet
Don’t miss your chance to ski like an Olympian at Mt. Van Hoevenberg in Lake Placid, NY.
Are you ready to conquer one of the world's most challenging citizen Nordic races in the world? Then, you'll want to be at Mt. Van Hoevenberg on Saturday, February 24, for this year's Swix Lake Placid Loppet.
For over 30 years, this beloved event ("Loppet" means "race" in Norwegian) has been held annually against the stunning backdrop of Lake Placid Olympic history on a slightly modified version of the 50k course constructed for the 1980 Winter Games.
A citizen’s race means those of us who don’t dwell in the stratosphere amongst Olympic-caliber athletes get a chance to race on the same courses as these magnificent world-class competitors.
Equally thrilling and demanding, the Loppet can be completed as classic or skate disciplines - if that seems too daunting, opt into the Kort 25K option instead.
The Citizens Series includes 3K, 6K and 12K events if that's more your speed. Those races will occur in the afternoon, followed by some delicious food and live entertainment, making your visit unforgettable. Bring the whole family for a day of winter fun.
The Loppet by the numbers.
50k Loppet | 2 x 25k loop
25k Kort | 1 x 25k loop
Height Difference | 183m
Maximum Climb | 69m
Climb | Kort 560m | Loppet 1120m
