Lake George Arts Project’s Courthouse Gallery presents French artist Lola Lefrançois’ The Eye of the River, her first solo exhibition in the United States. This mesmerizing exhibit features textile and landscape paintings.

Lefrançois draws inspiration from classical Western landscape painting to create an alluring landscape that captivates the viewer.

Get lost in an illusory sense of peace and calm.

By reimagining pastoral scenes and 18th-century still life, Lola Lefrançois creates fragmented and decaying landscapes that extend into the gallery space. Her landscapes are filled with hidden details; ferns conceal broken wings, rabbits gaze through the darkness, and an endless red river flows from the ground.

Lefrançois' images are both strange and familiar, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in an illusory sense of peace and calm.

In these works, the boundaries blur between pleasure and harm, beauty and destruction, challenging us to question how these concepts coexist.

Inspired by the utopian model of human harmony.

Lefrançois’ landscapes are profoundly influenced by her upbringing in Auroville, India. Founded in 1968 by Mirra Alfassa, known as "the Mother," Auroville is an experimental township designed by architect Roger Anger.

Her work draws inspiration from the utopian ideals of human harmony and peace that she experienced while growing up there. Through her landscapes, she explores the enticing facade of a perfect community, ultimately revealing humanity's potential for violence.
