There is still time to celebrate The Hyde’s birthday in Glens Falls, NY.
The Adirondacks are home to many treasures – natural and man-made. One of our favorites is the incredible Hyde Collection in Glens Falls, NY, in the Southern Woodlands of the ADK.
Housed in Charlotte Pruyn Hyde and Louis Hyde’s former exquisite residence in Glens Falls, the museum treats visitors to Hyde’s fantastic collection of artistic masterpieces collected over their lifetimes.
The Hydes gifted their home and art collection "to maintain a Museum for the exhibition of the permanent collection and to promote and cultivate the improvement of the fine arts, the education and benefit of the residents of Glens Falls and vicinity and the general public."
2023 marks the 60th Anniversary of the opening of the Hyde Collection. Visit The Hyde to see works by artists such as El Greco, Botticelli, Rembrandt, Rubens, Degas, Seurat, Picasso, Renoir, Childe Hassam, Winslow Homer, and Whistler as well as the outstanding works of accomplished artists based in the region, such as Rockwell Kent, Dorothy Dehner, David Smith, John Van Alstine and others.
The Hyde is holding special events and exhibitions year-round to commemorate their 60th Anniversary. Current and upcoming events and exhibitions include:
Celebrating 60 Years: The Collector Charlotte Pruyn Hyde
Songs of the Horizon: David Smith, Music, and Dance
A Dream Realized: Hyde Annual Gala
Edgar Degas, The Private Impressionist: Works on Paper by the Artist and His Circle
The Hyde collection is not to be missed by any visitor to the ADK who loves art. It is often compared to institutions such as the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum in Boston, the Frick Collection in New York City and the Barnes Foundation in Philadelphia.
