Downton Abbey comes to Lake Placid Center for the Arts
Experience the upstairs/downstairs glamour of Downton Abbey with this costume exhibit in Lake Placid.
The Lake Placid Center for the Art’s exhibit, Dressing the Abbey, weaves popular culture, fashion and history into an exhibition borrowed from the wardrobe of the hit PBS television drama.
The exhibit transports visitors to the early 20th century to relive their favorite memories and nostalgia for Downton Abbey™.
The original award-winning costumes in the exhibition were designed by England’s leading costumier, John Bright, for the British-American television series.
Produced by the London costume house of Cosprop Ltd, the beautiful costumes have been worn by leading actors on the motion picture set of the eponymous fictional English country estate.
The series explores the lives of its aristocratic inhabitants and their servants – together with the latest fashion trends and turbulent times following the epic sinking of the Titanic.
Through 35 bespoke costumes made for the characters, the exhibition presents a fashion history of the period surrounding World War I, a period that changed the social fabric of Great Britain.
While this may be a perfect rainy day activity in the ADK, for any Downton fans, this is an experience not to be missed in any weather.
The exhibit is on display until September 10, 2023. Visit the LPCA website for more information.
