Thursday Night Fireworks on Lake George
A summer tradition of free fireworks shows in the Adirondacks.
Every Thursday evening in July and August, the Village of Lake George lights up the Adirondack sky with a beautiful fireworks display. Generations of visitors and locals enjoy this summer tradition.
The fireworks typically blast off at 9:30 pm. However, the shows are weather-dependent. Visit the Village of Lake George's Facebook page for the latest information.
Tips for the great places to view the fireworks.
The best location to enjoy Lake George Village’s fireworks is along the waterfront between Shepard Park Beach and Million Dollar Beach.
If you’re lucky, grab a table on the deck at one of the restaurants and pubs that dot the shoreline, such as The Lagoon and The Boardwalk Restaurant and Marina.
The Lake George Steamboat Company offers fireworks cruises. There may be no more thrilling spot to witness the pyrotechnics from the water.
If you’re looking for something more cozy and intimate, the Fort William Henry offers six private firepits with unobstructed views of Lake George. But they book up fast. Visit the hotel website for more information.
Getting around Lake George in the summer.
Heads up, traffic on Thursday nights in Lake George Village (really, any time in the summer) can be intense. And if the traffic’s bad, you know parking is not a picnic either.
With some strategic planning, you can overcome this obstacle. First, give yourself ample time to find a parking spot and to walk to your destination.
Most street parking is metered in Lake George Village. During the summer months, parking regulations are strictly enforced, so pay attention to all signs and directions.
The Village uses pay stations. You use the pay station to prepay for your chosen period of time; you are issued a receipt/ticket that you place on your dash.
Lake Village also uses the ParkMobile system so drivers can pay for their meters via an app on their Smartphones. Easy-peasy, just remember to download the app before you leave home.
Visitors will also find paid parking lots around town. These may be hourly or an all-day flat fee. They tend to fill up fast, so plan accordingly.
You may luck out and find free parking on the southwest side of town (in the opposite direction of Lake George). To find these free parking spots, turn onto McGillis Avenue (opposite Beach Road). From there, drive two blocks to Helen Street, where you can discover non-metered parking, or past Helen Street to Schuyler Street and beyond. Be prepared for a walk to your destination.
