Woods Walks and Artisan Market in the Lake George Region
Learn about edible plants, mushroom foraging, native plants and trees and visit with Adirondack artisans.
Visit Martin’s Lumber in Thurman on Saturday, June 1, for a series of Woods Walks focusing on herbs, mushrooms, native plants, and trees. Walks are offered throughout the day, and a gallery of artists will provide a variety of demonstrations and hands-on activities.
Ed Braley will lead the mushroom-guided walk. He is certified in wild mushroom safety and goes along the woodland trails, finding and identifying familiar mushrooms. Ed will explain the characteristics used for identification, life cycles, new research and edible vs. medicinal species. He is part of the Chefs Consortium, specializing in mushroom dishes. Ed will also have his artwork displayed along with mushroom products.
Plant walks are focused on edible plants, not only those abundant during the summer months but also “how to eat a tree,” finding what is available year-round. At Martin’s Lumber, Annett Burriello will have her famous dandelion coffee and samples of what was discussed on her walk.
Owner Gary Martin will delve into his favorite topic, the forest and his trees. He will discuss being a steward of the land, the joy of being in the woods and the relationship we all share with nature.
Friends and neighbors will be on hand to offer a wide variety of art, along with demonstrations and fun activities. Jewelry, blacksmithing, pyrography, greeting cards, candles, woodwork, quilting, and more will be available.
Other Farms and shops in Town will be open for more walks, fun and shopping. Be sure to check them out.
