Paint or Photograph the Eclipse
Adirondack Artists Guild hosts Eclipse art reception and exhibit in Saranac Lake.
The Adirondack Artists Guild invites local plein air painters and photographers to submit paintings and photos to the Adirondack Artists Guild Gallery for a Plein Air Eclipse reception and exhibit.
Artists are encouraged to start plein air paintings (done outdoors, on location) before the eclipse on April 8. However, The Guild anticipates that the pieces will be further worked on during this once-in-a-lifetime event in the Adirondacks, in order to capture some of the unexpected results of witnessing this celestial occurrence as it happens.
Photographers should capture the eclipse's unique impact on the Adirondack landscape by taking photos during, leading up to, or just after the celestial event.
Following the eclipse, The Gallery will host a temporary exhibit, using table-top easels, on the evening of April 8 from 6 pm to 8 pm. The exhibit will continue through April 17.
Entries should be submitted (along with a donated food item) by 6 pm in time for reception. However, with warnings of potential traffic jams due to high numbers of visitors, plein air pieces may be delivered to the gallery on the 8th or any of the following days. Call ahead to be sure the gallery is open: 518-891-2615.
Submissions do not have to be framed but it is suggested that works on paper be matted or in protective clear sleeves.
The Adirondack Artists Guild asks that artists let know if they plan to participate by emailing Sandy Hildreth (Member Artist & Website Manager)
