Celebrate the 2024 Total Solar Eclipse in Saranac Lake.
Take part in Adirondack history.
The Town of Saranac Lake is planning a festive day of events for the eclipse on April 8, 2024.
A once-in-a-lifetime Adirondack event and town-wide festival.
Saranac Lake lies directly in the Path of Totality, when the day will be turned into the night for a few minutes in the afternoon. To commemorate this awe-inspiring occurrence, the Town of Saranac is pulling out all the stops to make the day truly memorable. Plans include:
Live Music: Get down to great music from talented local bands, adding a harmonious soundtrack to the eclipse.
Art Exhibitions: Discover the creative spirit of the Adirondacks through captivating art displays and interactive installations.
Food and Drinks: Savor delicious bites and beverages from local vendors, satisfying your taste buds while you wait for the eclipse.
Eclipse Viewing: Secure your spot in the heart of downtown Saranac Lake to witness the eclipse of a lifetime.
How long will the eclipse last?
The entire eclipse lasts for 2 hours and 26 minutes in Saranac Lake.
Phase one in the Path of Totality — first contact (aka partial eclipse) begins at 2:12 pm — As the moon starts to move in front of the sun, a small curved section of the sun starts to disappear, marking the beginning of the partial eclipse. As the moon gradually makes its way across the sun's face, the world around you gradually darkens.
Total Eclipse begins at 3:24 pm — “Totality” occurs when the moon fully covers the sun, plunging the area into an eerie and captivating darkness. This is the onset of the total eclipse, a rare and unforgettable experience that few witness in their lifetime. Totality lasts for 3 minutes and 28.9 seconds of darkness.
Total Eclipse ends at approximately 3:28 pm — After the exhilarating moments of totality, the moon moves away from the sun. The return of sunlight begins, marking the end of the total eclipse. The moon continues its journey across the sun until it entirely moves away.
Eclipse 2024 concludes at 4:37 pm.
