Legendary Jazz Pianist Ray Alexander and his Trio Perform at Tannery Pond Center
Spend Sunday afternoon, January 28, at Tannery Pond Center in North Creek, listening to the Ray Alexander Jazz Trio play tunes from the American Songbook, including jazz standards, Broadway show tunes, bebop, and contemporary selections with great style and improvisation.
Joining Ray on stage are Erik Johnson on Bass and Pete Sweeny on Drums.
Ray Alexander bought his first keyboard with money he saved from his paper route when he was 12. Since then, he’s achieved an incredible record as an accomplished performer and teacher. He has played with many great names and traveled globally playing piano, including Monaco, Italy, Sweden, France, Denmark, and Bermuda, where he lived for a year with his family.
Ray arranged and played off-Broadway for musicals such as “Jesus Christ Superstar,” “Side by Side by Sondheim,” and “A Matter of Opinion,” among others. Some of his "fun" gigs have included playing for Mario Cuomo's campaign, a jam session in Tivoli Gardens, Denmark, and playing Dixieland in New Orleans.
Under the guidance of the Director of Carnegie Hall, Julius Bloom, Ray coordinated a musical concert series broadcast live by WQXR radio station in New York City. One of his guests was a then-young and now-famous cellist, Yo-Yo Ma.
