Sponsor a Loon at the Adirondack Interpretive Center’s Loon Dive
The SUNY ESF Adirondack Interpretive Center folks in Newcomb are mixing things up a bit this year. They’ve transformed their annual Rubber Loon Race into a Rubber Loon Dive.
In the past, their custom-designed, made-in-the-USA rubber loons have shown off their racing skills. But this year, due to the loss of the AIC’s starting and finish line bridges crossing the outlet of Rich Lake along the Sucker Brook Trail, the organizers are switching things up and putting the loon flotilla’s diving skills to the test.
They will launch the loons to see which can land in floating rings and determine which loon will take home the title of the best diver.
In this annual fund-raising event, anyone can sponsor a loon to win a prize. Join the AIC on Saturday, September 21st at 11 am to launch your loon into the lake (or they can do it for you) and see if they can land in one of the top three floating rings. It's going to be a splash!
Sponsors of the top loon finishers win a prize:
1st Place - $100
2nd Place – Rubber Loon
3rd Place – ESF Swag
Attend in person to sponsor a rubber loon, or you can sponsor online. You don’t have to be present to win. Each sponsored rubber loon is assigned a number.
As with any Adirondack event, everything is subject to change. Luckily, you can stay up-to-date on the latest news and information at:
According to AIC’s website, one hundred percent of the proceeds from sponsored loons in the Rubber Loon Dive are directly used to help fund educational programming for the general public and academic and professional groups at the Adirondack Interpretive Center.
The AIC is a year-round outdoor education center that draws on the local landscape for programs on the natural and human history of the Adirondacks.
