Jazz at the Lake Concludes September 17
This is a three-day event starting Friday, September 15 to Sunday, September 17, 2023
A crown jewel in the fall season of outstanding festivals and celebrations in the Adirondacks, Jazz at the Lake is one of the East Coast’s premier jazz events.
Day three continues a program of world-renowned jazz musicians performing at the Shephard Park Theater on Lake George's shores. It’s a stunning venue for experiencing live music and the majesty of the Adirondacks.
1 pm — Duduka Da Fonseca & Quarteto Universal at Shephard Park
These accomplished musicians bring their brilliant blend between two extraordinary musicians who have achieved a rare level of mastery in demanding musical traditions from opposite sides of the globe.
Recent Guggenheim Fellow Rez Abbasi has built a formidable reputation as a guitarist who combines his love of jazz with an international array of influences from South Asia and beyond.
Josh Feinberg is one of a handful of Western musicians who excel at the challenging legacy of the Hindustani sitar, specializing in the Maihar Gharana style from North India, and a jazz bassist who studied with Paul Bley and Dave Holland.
3 pm — Richie Goods/Chien Chien Lu “Connected”
The first project by the musical group “Connected” features the immensely talented bassist Richie Goods and the up-and-coming vibraphonist/percussionist Chien Chien Lu.
The group came together during the pandemic while they were isolated together. Richie Goods and Chien Chien frequently discussed the Black Lives Matter movement and the unwarranted hate crimes against Asians during the COVID-19 lockdown. They wanted to create a project that would bring people together and inspire love and peace.
Music became the catalyst that resulted in a rare collaboration. They worked on several projects in 2020 and 2021.
They decided to solidify their musical relationship by creating “CONNECTED”. Together, Richie and Chien Chien produced an exciting and energetic listening experience that attracted new audiences worldwide.
5 pm — Emilio Solla and the Tango Jazz Orchestra
The Tango Jazz Orchestra (TJO) is Emilio’s most ambitious project to date. A full 17-piece jazz orchestra that replaces the guitar with a bandoneon.
This large ensemble has allowed Solla to take his blend of tango and Latin American music with jazz to a whole new level of accomplishment. The orchestra recorded and released its first work, “Puertos, Music of International Waters” in 2019. One of Solla’s compositions was nominated that same year for a Grammy Award for Best Instrumental Arrangement (sharing the honor with Vince Mendoza, John Williams and Jacob Collier) and the full album was awarded the 2020 Latin Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album.
