Adirondack bats take to the sky

The bat signal will be lit in Paul Smith’s on September 27 for a introduction to Adirondack bats.

Are you bat curious? Then this might be the perfect Adirondack adventure for you.

On Friday night, September 27, Paul Smith’s Visitor Interpretive Center (VIC) hosts a FREE Introduction to Bats.

Participants will join Oto Tomaszewski on a walk down the Heron Marsh Trail to watch for bats of the Adirondacks. The program will feature a short indoor introduction to local bats, followed by a walk to the floating bridge over the Heron Marsh, where visitors will watch as bats feed on various insects.

Learn fascinating bat facts (e.g., did you know bats are the only mammals that can fly?) while enjoying a walk over the Heron Marsh Trail.

If they can, participants should come prepared with a headlamp or flashlight and wear insect repellent. The program lasts 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on bat activity.
