Adirondack Great Camp Santanoni Hosts Art & Music Day
Celebrate the arts at a Gilded Age treasure in Necomb, NY.
Great Camp Santanoni, a National Historic Landmark, invites you to celebrate art and music across the beautiful historic site in the Central Adirondacks. They have organized unique art and activity tables, as well as artists and musicians and art and music tours.
Camp Santanoni and the Santanoni Preserve are nearly 13,000 acres of the Adirondack Forest Preserve and contain three historic areas to visit: the Gate Lodge, Farm, and Main Camp. The gate lodge was built by and for the wealthy Pruyn family and welcomed its first guests in the spring of 1893. It’s one of the earliest examples of what became known as an Adirondack Great Camp.
Activities at the Gate Lodge
Santanoni’s Gate Lodge is just off New York State Route 28N. There are two parking lots adjacent to the Gate Lodge. Events will include:
10 am - 3 pm: Plein-air Artists Gathering
10 am - 4 pm: Art and Activity Table
4 pm - 6 pm: Live music by Johnathon Walker
Fun on the Farm
The Farm is one mile from the gate lodge and features several buildings, including the creamery, smokehouse, and gardener's cottage, as well as the ruins of a massive barn complex lost to fire in 2004. Activities will include:
11 am and 2 pm: Farm Tour
11 am - 2 pm: Guest Artist Tim Sauter (model builder)
10 am - 3 pm: Art and Activity Table
Journey to the Main Lodge.
Santanoni’s Main Lodge and Newcomb Lake are just about four miles beyond the farm, making the round trip to the main camp 9.8 miles. In addition to the impressive main lodge, the artist's studio, boathouse, and several smaller buildings can be seen here. Make the trek to see:
11 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm: Art and Music Tours
10 am - 3 pm: Art and Activity Table
