Fort William Henry Museum Opening Day
Step back in time and experience life in 1755 at a British fort on Lake George in the Adirondacks.
Fort William Henry Museum at the southern end of Lake George opens for its 70th season on Saturday, April 27, 2024.
The museum will be open daily through October, with new exhibits, a renovated gift shop, and military demonstrations. Visitors can watch live musket and cannon firings, play 18th-century games, and join the King’s Army. They can also talk with British Regulars, Provincial Troops, and Rangers to learn more about this exciting time in Colonial America.
The museum allows visitors to experience the history, sights and sounds of the French and Indian War in the heart of Lake George.
Visit the Fort William Henry Museum website for more information.
Special feature: Colonial bateaux workshop on April 27, 2024.
Bateaux, French for “boats,” were the utilitarian crafts of inland waters for much of North America in the colonial era. On opening day, Fort William Henry Museum offers a class that examines colonial bateaux and other vessels that plied Lake George as well as nearby NY waterways in the 18th century.
The workshop will also inspect a three-quarter-scale model of a 1758 bateau “shipwreck” and peruse 18th-century vessel pieces from the museum’s collection.
Sponsored by the French & Indian War Society at Lake George, Inc., the program also raises funds for the not-for-profit society. Classes are in person and take place from 10 am to 1 pm. Participants receive a certificate of attendance. The cost per workshop is $30 ($15 for Society members). No audio or video recording is permitted. Preregistration is required. Find out more.
