Fall on Oak Mountain in the Central Adirondacks is the perfect time for a celebration.

Oak Mountain in Speculator hosts their annual OAKtoberfest (see what they did there? You gotta respect a good pun), which is always a popular fall event in the Adirondacks. With great activities for the whole family, delicious food from local vendors, a craft market, and, of course, beer and wine, this Oktoberfest event will indeed have something for everyone in your crew.

A ski center in the winter months, Oak Mountain, comes alive during the fall with one of the best Oktoberfests in the Central Adirondacks. It’s the perfect time to take a scenic ride on their chair lift for an unparalleled view of the fall foliage.

Peruse the craft market, featuring local artisans and vendors like Paca Gardens, which sells beautiful Alpaca socks, sweaters and accessories; North Creek Candle Company, which offers 100% soy candles hand-poured in the Adirondacks; American Horse Wood Designs; and Nevitrek Snowshoes.

Food and beverage options abound at Speculator’s OAKtoberfest. Oak Mountain’s Acorn Pub and Eatery will serve fall favorites and a full bar. For more casual fare, try their mountainside and Oak Mt. concession stands. Oak Mountain Bakery will also offer delicious treats.

CampStore! Lake Pleasant’s magical marketplace will be on hand with their signature mini donuts, kettle corn, and very tasty lemonade.

Of course, no Oktoberfest would be complete without tasting local beers and wines. One of the Adirondack’s highly acclaimed breweries, Paradox Brewery, will be on hand, as well as Burlington’s Zero Gravity Craft Brewery, Nine Pin Cider Works from Albany and more to be announced by OAKtoberfest organizers.

The Insolent Willies, an upstate NY roots-rock band, will perform original tunes and eclectic interpretations of classic songs. They take the stage from Noon to 2 pm and will undoubtedly play a few selections from their recent release, “Blackcats and a Blowtorch.”

Wayward Folk takes the stage from 2:30 to 4:30. This local favorite consists of Luke Irish on guitar and vocals, Len Broiles on fiddle and mandolin, and Mike Vail on percussion. They are an offshoot of the well-known Northeast musical duo Luke & Mike (just a trio). Their laid-back vibe will keep the crowd entertained.

Lil’ ADKers (and many Big ADKers, too) will be thrilled that the Utica Zoo will be on hand with their ZooMobile. A Utica Zoo educator will (humanely) bring various live animals and related biofacts to OAKtoberfest and provide engaging educational information about the critters.
