Studio C - Sacandaga Art Park in the Adirondacks
A unique opportunity to vacation amongst stunning works of art and the incredible natural beauty of the Adirondack Park.
Internationally acclaimed sculptors John Van Alstine and Caroline Ramersdorfer have built a captivating artistic complex on the banks of the Sacandaga River in Wells, NY.
The property dates back to 1821 and was originally a lumber mill that survived many incarnations. Currently, this 8-acre park is home to Van Alstine’s and Ramersdorfer’s studios. Their stunning sculptures are installed across the estate.
Not only is this a wonderful place to enjoy beautiful art, but John and Caroline also give visitors a unique and special opportunity to stay overnight on the property at Studio C, a 1,000-square-foot loft-like space attached to one of the original buildings. The design is entirely open-plan, with a king-size bed on a raised platform at one end of the space.
The living area includes a well-equipped kitchen and a modern bathroom. Attached to Studio C is a lovely patio with a grill -- the perfect spot to soak in the beautiful surroundings. The artists’ works are present throughout the property.
We spent a week there working on various ADK Taste projects in 2021. It was the perfect environment to spark creativity while also unwinding and escaping the travails of modern life.
Van Alstine and Ramersdorfer equipped Studio C with every modern convenience one would need -- blazing fast internet/wifi, Roku, AC, copious hot water and excellent water pressure (hey, that’s my “thing”).
However, the ultimate pleasure is walking around the beautifully landscaped grounds that feature installations of both artists’ work. The property is also directly on the banks of the Sacandaga River, so if one fancies a dip or wants to do some fly fishing, it’s literally just outside the door of Studio C.
We look forward to making a stay at Studio C a regular thing.
P.S. You can visit the Sculpture Park without staying there. Check out the website for more information.
