Santa delivered some lovely powdery snow and chilling temperatures this past week, perfect for ongoing grooming and snowmaking in the Adirondacks, a recipe for excellent early-season skiing conditions.

Our ski reporter braved the single-digit temperatures on December 23 at Gore and reported back that he had a fantastic day.

New York State's largest ski resort, Gore Mountain, in the Adirondacks

Gore’s Summit is now open - ski Chatiemac, Hawkeye, and Headwaters. Over the last 7 days, they’ve received 6.5” of fresh snow and continue making snow daily. They have opened 200 acres of terrain so far this year. Visit Gore’s website for the most current details.

Whiteface Mountain Ski Resort in the Adirondack Mountains in New York State.

Whiteface has received 60” of snow in 2024. Current conditions feature packed powder and frozen granular terrain. For the latest on conditions, visit the Whiteface website.

New York State ski resort West Mountain in the Southern Adirondacks

West Mt. reports that 13 of its 35 trails are open with machine-groomed and packed-powder conditions. Their Tubing Park is open for business, too. Visit West’s website for the latest snow and ski conditions.

Oak Mountain Ski Area has eight of its 22 trails open and continues to make snow. The tubing hill is also open. Visit Oak’s website for current trail conditions.

New York State ski area Titus Mountain in the Adirondacks

Titus Mountain, Malone, NY

Titus Mountain, home of the slopeside Skibana, has 46 of 53 trails open with packed powder surfaces. They received 8” of snow in the last five days and expect to make snow. Visit Titus’s website for the latest conditions.

NY State Ski area Snow Ridge in the Adirondack Mountains in Turin, NY.

Snow Ridge is ideally located on New York’s snow magnet, the Tug Hill Plateau. So far this season, they have received 66 inches of snow, with a base of up to 24 inches. For the latest conditions, visit Snow Ridge’s website.

McCauley Mountain in Old Forge NY in the Adirondack Park.

McCauley Mountain ski area in Old Forge, NY, is now open. The T-Bar, Playmate and Mighty Mite rope tows are open. They’ve had 12” of snow in the last 24 hours. Visit McCauley’s website for the latest conditions.

New York state ski area, Hickory HIll, in the Adirondack Park

We’ve been checking Hickory’s website and social media feeds and are still awaiting word on when they will open.Visit their website for the latest information.
