Event planners have a full slate of activities planned for opening weekend. Saturday’s events include:
The Opening Ceremonies will start at noon on the MacDonald Pier in Shepard Park, featuring a blessing and speeches from local dignitaries.
Later in the day, head over to the Shepard Park Amphitheater for the Chili cook-off. Please note tickets are required for tastings and will go on sale on November 20.
If you're feeling competitive, don't miss the Outhouse Races on the lake or other locations (depending on the weather). Register now to compete for a chance to win $2,000 in prizes.
The Lake George Winter Carnival Parade takes place on Saturday, February 3.
Stop by Shepard Park at 5:30 pm for free S'mores (while supplies last). Everyone is welcome!
Also, at 5:30 pm, Fort William Henry Hotel co-sponsors a hot chocolate bar. You'll receive a Winter Carnival souvenir mug and can add your favorite toppings to your hot chocolate. There's an online mug presale option starting on November 20. Only a limited number of mugs will be available for sale on the event day.
Finally, end the day with a bang. Watch the fireworks display over Lake George starting at 7 pm.
Additional events are offered every day during Lake George’s Winter Carnival.
As if the special events weren’t enough to keep visitors occupied, the organizing committee hosts events every weekend during the Carnival that have become Lake George traditions.
Keep warm and toasty by the bonfires on the beach while the Lil’ ADKers enjoy various arts and crafts and games at Shephard Park between Noon and 3 pm.
Pony rides are also available at Shephard Park during this time, but please note that this activity has a fee.
At 2:30 pm, The Dog Cabin will host the LG Dogs Got Talent contest, so don't miss it.
If you're feeling brave, participate in the Polar Plunge at 3 pm in the frigid Adirondack waters of Lake George. Make sure to register in advance or at the Souvenir Tent in Shephard Park. And don’t forget to bring a towel!
If you're looking for a more relaxing way to enjoy the winter scenery, take a horse-drawn carriage or sleigh ride on Canada Street with “A Time to Remember.” Please note that there is a fee for this activity. For more information, you can call Tina at 518.321.5539.
The Lake George Winter Carnival is a much-awaited event during the winter season. If you can’t make the first weekend, there are three more weekends of frosty fun.
Although the weather can affect the activities, the organizers are always prepared to make necessary changes. Local businesses and restaurants are excited to serve carnival-goers as well. To stay updated on all the events, you can follow the Lake George Winter Carnival Facebook page for the latest information.
