Birding Hike on the Northville-Placid Trail
Embark on a delightful birding adventure with experienced ornithologist Joan Collins as she leads a guided bird walk along a picturesque section of the historic Northville-Placid Trail. Don't miss the chance to discover and observe a variety of bird species in their natural habitat on Saturday, September 14th, 2024.
Participants will hike two miles round trip from the trailhead on Route 28N in Long Lake (approximately 1.5 miles east of Stewart’s). The hike will be on mostly level terrain with just a few small hills.
The guided hike will lead participants through diverse habitats, offering a unique experience of the boreal forest, marsh/bog, swamp, and mixed forest. In mid-September, hikers can expect to encounter a variety of bird species, including resident and migratory birds. Keep an eye out for the elusive Black-backed Woodpeckers, especially in the boreal sections of the trail.
Participants will meet at 7 am at the trailhead parking.
This location has an outhouse for your convenience. Please bring food, water, a jacket, suitable attire such as hiking shoes, binoculars, a hat, and sunscreen if necessary.
