Trailhead Lodge in Tupper Lake: Adirondack Charm with a Modern Vibe
Weekender Hotels’ hotel combines modernity with delightful pleasures.
We were slightly anxious when we learned that Shaheen’s Adirondack Inn had changed hands. Built in 1970, Shaheen’s Inn has been a fixture on Park Street in Tupper Lake for over 50 years. It had a long history of “hometown hospitality” and was favored by families staying in the area, who often returned year after year.
Fast forward to today, and our worries were for naught. Now known as Trailhead Lodge by Weekender Hotels (the same groovy folks responsible for Alpine Lodge in North Creek), the property maintains many of the same values as Shaheen’s – a passion for providing excellent hospitality, dedication to continuous improvement, and commitment to delivering superior value to its guests – while creating the area’s first “smart hotel” with a decidedly modern and luxury ambiance.
An Adirondack hotel with a modern vibe and delightful amenities.
Trailhead promises contemporary style with tech-enabled amenities. And they deliver in spades. The hotel’s rooms are spacious (the Standard size is 400 sq. feet) and scrupulously clean, with every modern comfort.

On the property, guests will find an outdoor pool, putting green, lawn games, a fire pit, and a picnic area. Plus, you can charge your electric vehicle on-site. Trailhead is conveniently located to Tupper Lake’s shops (like our favorite, the Adirondack Store) and restaurants and is literally around the corner from the acclaimed Wild Center.
Continuing a legacy of providing outstanding accommodations while respecting the environment and the community.
Trailhead also continues Shaheen’s practice of sustainability. In 2009, Shaheen's was chosen as one of 43 hotels in NYS to be certified as "green" for employing environmentally sustainable practices. Trailhead upholds that legacy through energy-efficient lighting and appliances, repurposing partnerships to distribute gently used furniture and linens, and water conservation efforts. The hotel pledges to find new and better ways “to serve guests and Mother Nature in an eco-conscious way.” Right on.
The Adirondack Park is Trailhead’s backyard.
Trailhead is ideally situated in the heart of the Adirondacks. The village of Tupper Lake is an excellent jumping-off point for outdoor recreation – hiking, skiing, paddling and more.
The nearby towns of Saranac Lake and Lake Placid offer numerous attractions and historic sites. Saranac Lake offers charming art galleries, restaurants and shops.
Lake Placid has been the home to two Winter Olympic Games in 1932 and 1980. The site of the “Miracle on Ice,” the town boasts many important winter sporting venues where international athletes compete in bobsled, luge, ski jumping, speedskating, ice hockey and more.
