Get an Introduction to Fly Fishing at the Adirondack Interpretive Center in Newcomb, New York
Attend a one-day workshop that introduces the art and science of fly fishing.
Learn the essentials of fly fishing in the Central Adirondacks.
A combination of indoor and outdoor instruction will focus on the basics of fly casting, gear, and technique. No equipment or experience is required.
Pre-registration and pre-payment of $40 fee required by May 1st. Register online or email shample@esf.edu.
Licensed Fishing Guide Rick Kovacs will instruct this one-day workshop, focusing on the basics of fly casting, gear, and technique. Bring your lunch and a willingness to learn something new or improve your skills.

9 am - History of fly fishing and intro to the “quiet sport”
9:30 am - Tools of the Trade - Keep it Simple
10 am - Break
10:15 am - It’s all about the bugs
11 am - Basics of casting
Noon - Lunch (Bring your own)
12:30 pm - Matching the hatch
1 pm - Reading water, casting to the rise and prospecting.
1:30 pm - “Tight Lines”- hooking, playing, catching, and releasing
2 pm - Knot know-how
