Adirondack Center for Writing PRIDE Events
Saranac Lake’s Adirondack Center for Writing will host several events on Saturday, June 29, as part of PRIDE Month 2024.
Queer Nature: A Writing Workshop with Elliot Pecora — 12:30 to 2:30 pm
In this workshop–informed by Queer Nature: A Poetry Anthology (Autumn House, 2022)–students will interact hands-on with a variety of poems. This includes collaging, remixing, and creating black-out poetry while discussing the varied relationship between queerness and the natural world.
In this collaborative space, participants will have time to free-write and share their work, asking questions of both themselves and others.
Every Queer Story Starts Somewhere: A Live Storytelling Workshop — 3 to 5 pm
The queer community is bursting with inspiring, harrowing, hilarious, and moving narratives. But how do you turn an interesting anecdote into a compelling story with a great hook and a clear beginning, middle and end? Better yet: how do you perform it?
In this workshop, attendees will learn how to craft compelling slam-style stories with a clear beginning, middle, and end. Tell or read your story live at ACW’s Pride Open Mic to follow later in the evening. Or, bring your story to ACW’s Howl Story Slam as it travels around the North Country all year long.
Pride Open Mic featuring Alicia Mountain — 7 to 9 pm
The mic will be open to anyone who’d like to share up to 5 minutes of writing or storytelling.
Tell a story you crafted in one of the pride workshops (Queer Nature & Every Queer Story Starts Somewhere) or share a piece that hasn’t been workshopped at all.
