Movie: “How Will We Face Climate Change?”
Newcomb’s AIC Mud Season Movie Festival features a film about how scientists combat climate change.
As part of its Mud Season Movie festival, the Adirondack Interpretive Center (AIC) in Newcomb, NY, presents a film by NOVA, American television's most popular primetime science series. The film demystifies the scientific and technological concepts that shape and define our lives, planet, and universe.
NOVA’s film explores ways that scientists are facing the climate challenge. Including:
Weathering the Future: As extreme weather in the U.S. impacts more people–with longer heat waves, more intense rainstorms, megafires, and droughts–discover how Americans are fighting back by marshaling ancient wisdom and innovating new solutions.
Chasing Carbon Zero: The U.S. recently set an ambitious climate change goal: zero carbon emissions by 2050. To achieve that, slash emissions by half by 2030. Is it possible? And what kind of technology would it take? Meet scientists and engineers who are convinced we can achieve carbon zero in time to avoid the most significant impacts of climate change.
Arctic Sinkholes: Scientists investigate colossal explosions in Siberia and other evidence that rapidly melting Arctic soil releases vast amounts of methane, a potent greenhouse gas. What are the implications for the future of our climate?
This film series is part of a multi-year, multi-platform initiative by PBS that aims to explore all aspects of climate change and how it affects communities, countries, and the planet. PBS's most significant commitment to the topic is providing a more in-depth understanding of climate change issues while highlighting its intersections with conservation, biodiversity, and the ecosystem.
