The Town of Essex hosts its annual 4th of July celebrations, starting with a parade at 11 am. The mile-long parade route begins at the church beside the intersection of Route 22 and Blockhouse Road in Essex, NY. It ends south on Route 22 at School Street, just past the town hall or downtown at 1 pm.

Parade participants include elected officials, local businesses, non-profit organizations, firemen, first responders, the Police Pipes and Drums of Plattsburgh, floats, an old Peugeot automobile, and American Legion veterans. This year’s Grand Marshall is Wayne Bailey, a retired state trooper from Essex.

When the parade ends, family fun continues in front of Town Hall. The local Too Tall String Band will play for three hours starting at 1 pm. The band’s musical genres include Celtic, Adirondack, Americana and country. The group also performs original tunes.

There will also be activities, including a dunking booth featuring Essex Supervisor Ken Hughes, face painting by Penelope the Clown, and a kid’s bounce house. Enjoy classic 4th of July fare like sausages, hamburgers, and hotdogs from local vendors.

The Town of Essex shows why the Adirondacks are the perfect place to spend the 4th of July holiday.
