Essex Day Hike on the Lovely Essex Gateway Trail

Experience the serene beauty of the Champlain Valley as you explore the Essex Gateway Trail.

The trail goes through various landscapes, including forests and the pastures and farmlands of Essex Farm.

The trail begins with a three-minute walk north of the ferry landing. The trail passes through forest, pasture, and open farmland until its terminus at Blockhouse Road.

Much of the trail passes through Essex Farm, a busy place with cattle, sheep, pigs, and all forms of cultivation.

Generally considered an easy route, head out on this 2.3-mile out-and-back trail. Elevation gain is 101 feet. Bring the Lil’ ADKers and the family dog (on a leash, please).

The group will meet at the Essex Ferry Parking area and then walk 0.2 miles on the sidewalk along Essex Road to the trailhead.
