Celebrate the New Year with a First Day Hike in the Adirondacks
NYS offers guided hikes at state parks, historic sites, wildlife areas, trails, and public lands in the Adirondacks.
If you are looking for a fresh way to start in 2024, you can celebrate the New Year by participating in a First Day Hike at one of the many locations across the Adirondacks. The New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation (State Parks), the Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC), and the Canal Corporation are inviting you to kick off 2024 in a healthy way by hiking at state parks, historic sites, wildlife areas, trails, and public lands across New York State.
Most walks and hikes are family- and dog-friendly and typically range from one to five miles, depending on the location and conditions. Hikes are planned at state parks and historic sites, DEC State lands, wildlife areas, Forest Preserve trails, and environmental education centers.
Among the locations in the Adirondacks are
Cat Mountain
Coney Mountain
John Brown Farm
Paul Smith’s VIC
Prospect Mountain
Goodnow Mountain
