Lake View Lanes in the Tri-Peaks
Let it roll in Tupper Lake
It is said that bowling was the sport of kings and noble persons. In fact, at one point in England, the game was restricted by royal decree to “Noblemen and others having manors or lands.”
Lucky for us, those days are long gone, and better yet, we’re in America, where bowling is available to every man, woman, and child who can afford to rent a pair of shoes and hurl a heavy plastic orb down a narrow wooden alley.
While I’ve never been a member of a bowling league or a regular at any particular bowling venue, I have lifelong associations with the sport that make me a fan of sorts. So, I try to support my local bowling alley whenever I can.
Tupper Lake has a wonderful establishment in Lake View Lanes. Located not far from the center of town and in view of the lake, it’s a clean, modern, family-friendly establishment with multiple lanes, arcade games, a restaurant, and a sports bar with numerous TVs playing the latest sporting events. If your team is playing, they are probably showing it.
During the summer months, patrons can enjoy a cocktail or snack outdoors and games like cornhole, weather permitting.
Speaking of weather, bowling is a great diversion on rainy days in the ADK, especially if you share tight quarters in a camper or tent. It’s a great way to escape pervasive dampness, dry off, and get away from skeeters and other bugs.
In the Winter, carrying a bowling bowl has many practical benefits. It’s heavy, so the extra exertion required to tote your ball may keep you warm when the mercury drops below zero. And, when those winds pick up and bluster across Park Street, it can provide enough ballast to keep you from blowing away.
