Weekend Events, June 16-18, 2023

Special events in the Adirondacks this weekend.

There are endless opportunities for fun in the ADK all year-round. We compiled a list of special activities and events you don’t want to miss this weekend.

And remember, it’s Father’s Day Weekend. Mom got her weekend last month, so now it’s time to treat your Dad, Step-Dad, Surrogate Dad, or father figure in your life.

Ice Cream Social, North Creek, Friday, June 16

Courtesy of the good people at Stewart’s Shops, Tannery Pond Center is hosting a FREE ice cream social on their porch on Friday, June 16, from 1 pm to 4 pm.

What better way to say “I love you, Dad” than by treating him to free ice cream on a Friday?

Canoe to Brew, Raquette River, June 16

Celebrate Paddling hosts another outing in their guided paddle series around the Saranac Lake area on Friday evenings, from 5 pm to 7 pm, followed by refreshments at a local brewery.

What better way to unwind on a Friday and take advantage of the longest daylight hours each year?

This week’s tour is along the Raquette River and meets up afterward at, where else, Raquette River Brewing.

Free Guided Bird Walk, Lake Placid, June 17

The Adirondack Club hosts another free birding walk from the Cascade Welcome Center in Lake Placid on Saturday, June 17.

Birders of all ages and experiences are welcome, but it’s definitely for Early Bird Dads – walks begin promptly at 7:30 am.

Whiteface Whiskey Run & Festival, Wilmington, June 17

This multi-faceted event has something for everyone – a 5K and 10K race, whiskey tasting and food vendors, a historical re-enactment of the 1812 Battle of Plattsburgh, live music and entertainment, craft vendors and more.

Our Dad just had his hip replaced, so the 5K is out, but as long as I’m the designated driver, I’m sure he would be up for the whiskey tasting and history.

Activities take place at the Preston Festival Field (map) in Wilmington from 8 am to 4 pm.

Please celebrate responsibly.

Scots Day, Fort Ticonderoga, June 17

Get your Scottish Dad’s kilt dry-cleaned and pressed because, after a long hiatus, the beloved Scots Day Celebration returns on Saturday, June 17, 2023, at Fort Ticonderoga.

Indulge in Scottish history, heritage, and culture from 10 am to 5 pm.

Hickory Hill Hike 4 Kids + Bands, Brews, & Barbecue, Warrensburg, June 17

The Hickory Hike 4 Kids event is an all-day affair (well, 11 am to 5 pm) with a community hike up Hickory’s recently renovated trails, an outdoor BBQ featuring music, local beer and wine, delicious food, family games, and two live bands that will make you want to shake your rump roast. And all for a good cause.

Sponsored by the Hickory Legacy Foundation, this fundraiser supports summer youth programs and the return of youth skiing to the historic Hickory Ski Center in the 2023/2024 season.

Guided Canoe Paddle, Paul Smith’s, June 18

For Paddling Dads (and wanna-be Paddling Dads), this is a super opportunity to take a relaxing guided paddle with Paul Smith’s VIC staff on Sunday, June 18, from 10 am to 12 pm.

Learn about the Adirondack eco-system, get some paddling tips and enjoy the flora and fauna on Barnum Outlet and Barnum Pond.

Juneteenth Celebration at the John Brown Farm and Historic Site, Lake Placid, June 18

Juneteenth, short for “June 19th,” celebrates the effective end of chattel slavery in the United States.

The John Brown Farm State Historic Site, the home and burial site of famous abolitionist John Brown, hosts their 2023 Juneteenth Celebration on Sunday, June 18, from 12 pm to 4 pm.

The Farm is a few miles outside Lake Placid in North Elba, New York—a fantastic event for Freedom-Loving Dads.
