First Signs of Colorful Fall Foliage in the Adirondacks

Notable color changes begin across the Adirondack Park.

The I Love New York Fall Foliage Report is back, reporting that the first signs of the spectacular seasonal colors are beginning to appear across the Adirondack region. We are pleased to bring you this summary to help you enjoy all the season has to offer.

Leaf peeping season is underway in Tri-Lakes and High Peaks towns and villages.

According to I Love NY’s September 12 Fall Foliage Report, Saranac Lake’s leaf spotters anticipate up to 25% change this week with some pops of bright red and yellow. 

Scouts expect a 5-10% change in the foliage in Tupper Lake and Mt. Arab leaves by the weekend. The vivid greenery will start to become autumnal brilliance, featuring mustard, goldenrod, and copper hues. The soft maples are currently sporadically displaying scarlet and burgundy splashes as well.

Way up north in Malone, they see up to 10% of leaves changing into bright orange and red leaves with some touches of yellow.

Reports from Wilmington and Whiteface Mountain indicate that up to a 10% foliage change has occurred, with bright red and orange leaves beginning to appear against the mostly green backdrop. 

Spotters in the surrounding Whiteface area predict a color change of 10% or more, with deep shades of red and purple and pops of orange and yellow. The foliage change in Lake Placid is also at least 10%.

Leaves are just changing in the Lake Champlain Region and Adirondack Coast.

Spotters at the Lake Champlain Visitors Center in Crown Point predict about a 5% change, with muted gold and rust-colored leaves starting to appear. 

Reports advise that the Ticonderoga area can expect a 5% change, with average shades of red, orange, and yellow.

Plattsburgh I Love NY observers say they hover around 10% leaf change, with primarily red and yellow leaves.

The Central Adirondacks’ autumnal plumage is in the early phase of development.

The Leaf patrol in Lake Pleasant and Long Lake anticipates a 10% transition by the weekend, with some pockets of color within the canopies of maple trees.

In Newcomb, observers predict a little less than 10% foliage change by the weekend, with muted reds and oranges beginning to appear. 

I Love NY’s leaf spotters in Old Forge predict up to 25% foliage change this weekend, with splashes of deep red, burgundy and muted orange. Yellow shades are also emerging, mainly along the waterways. 

Way over west, in Lewis County, reports from Lowville indicate nearly 15% leaf change, with some bright orange and red leaves on the soft maples.

Lake George Region and Southern Foothills are beginning to transition.

In Warren County around Lake George, spotters expect about 5% change, with hints of red and yellow leaves. Reports from Queensbury also show about 5% color and a few isolated trees showing muted green-yellow leaves.
