Beginners Jackalope Taxidermy Workshop
Learn the art of preparing and preserving the skins of animals
The Adirondack Experience is hosting a half-day hands-on workshop for taxidermy novices to learn professional-level techniques employed in small mammal taxidermy. This event is designed for beginners; however, all are welcome.
Students will learn everything they need to create their own rabbit or jackalope taxidermy mount, from proper skinning and degreasing/washing to sculpting, mounting, and finishing. Students will learn traditional sculpting methods and carving a bust to create a shoulder mount form.
Participants also have the option to create a jackalope/hybrid creature using authentic antler pieces or sculpting their own. Attendees are also welcome to bring props or accessories if desired.
Students will go home with their custom-made creations, instructions for maintaining their pieces, and newfound or nourished love of taxidermy.
For more information about this event, visit the ADKX website. Pre-registration is required.
This class uses domestic rabbits, not wild rabbits, so the jackalope created will not be as large as a wild rabbit. Domestic rabbits are used because they are more forgiving for beginners to handle rather than very thin-skinned wild rabbits.
