Looking to work up an appetite for your Thanksgiving feast? Then head to Peru, NY, for the 45th running of the Peru Lions Club John P. Adams Memorial Turkey Trot. Our fact checker is on sabbatical, but this may be the ADK’s oldest Turkey Trot. We’ll verify by 2023.
Anyway, you won’t want to miss this special Adirondack Coast tradition. Participants can choose to do the 5k or 10k race, with proceeds benefiting the charitable work of the Peru Lions Club. In turn, the Lions will bestow special trophies on race winners.
The race begins at Peru Central School at 9 am. Participants can pick up their bibs starting at 7:45 am. All activities will be outside, with some weather protection provided by the bays of the Peru Central School bus garage.
Now, here’s the important part. “All runners will receive the commemorative 2022 Turkey Trot Hero Dinner Knife: Elegant yet sophisticated, the Turkey Trot Hero Dinner Knife is a compliment to any Thanksgiving Day meal. Be the talk of the table when you stroll in with your own utensil forged from the fires of running traditions and food comas. Fend off Uncle Harold for that last biscuit, or carve that turkey with swift and glorious conviction.”
We didn’t make that up. It’s a direct quote (with some grammar fixes) from the race website.
