The Queen of America’s Lakes is the Fireworks King.
Famous far beyond their shores for their pyrotechnics, Lake George Village is the place to be on July 4th for fireworks.
The Village of Lake George puts on an annual July 4th fireworks spectacular, and 2023 is no different. The pyrotechnics can be viewed all along the waterfront. This year’s show is slated to blast off at 9:30 pm, but that is approximate; event organizers claim the fireworks will go off immediately following sundown.
Due to their beauty and brilliance, the 4th of July fireworks are enormously popular, so if you plan to attend, and don’t have your own perch on the lake, make sure you have a good game plan.
Several of the Village's back streets are typically closed to traffic before the fireworks show to allow emergency vehicle access. Crowds usually pack in the thousands throughout the Village, creating traffic jams during and after the show.
So, plan accordingly and allow yourself plenty of time. We recommend arriving before 7 pm to find a legal parking spot (and that may not be enough time) and to wait at least one hour to exit the Village after the show. There are plenty of places to grab a beverage or ice cream cone after the show (see below).
There are only two ways in and out of the Village: one north on Route 9 and one south on Route 9. Traffic signals impact both and create long delays after every show.
The good news is there are plenty of things to do in Lake George Village all day. It’s known for its kitschy blend of old-time arcades, ice cream shops, and t-shirt stores. It’s super family-friendly and has plenty of places to grab a bite or more.
So why get there early and make a day of it?
