At ADK Taste, we celebrate the Adirondack spirit. This place is tailor-made for those who defy convention, seek their own path, and embrace their individuality. We admit to having a soft spot for those ADK events/venues/sites/businesses that challenge traditional conventions, commemorate the unusual, or simply march to the beat of their own drummer.

And so we bring you Genghis Barbie, the leading “post post-feminist” all-female horn experience. They have been called the most innovative and energizing chamber ensemble of its generation and will perform at The Sembrich in Bolton Landing on Wednesday, August 23, at 7 pm.

This is an ensemble of musicians with some serious creds; With a combined 24 years of conservatory training, Genghis Barbie delivers a visceral and unadulterated musical adventure. Performing arrangements of pop music from all eras, contemporary commissions, and classical works, Genghis Barbie is one of the most versatile groups on the classical/pop/rock/jazz/electro-acoustic scene.

The ensemble was incepted in a unique moment of ingenuity when Freedom Barbie, Alpine Barbie, Velvet Barbie, and Attila the Horn (as the members of the group refer to themselves) converged and vowed to create distinctive, interactive and personal performances.

Balancing individual careers in symphony orchestras in addition to their busy New York City performing schedule, the ladies of Genghis Barbie have performed at multiple International Horn Society Symposiums, premiered a solo commission at Carnegie Hall, and appeared on America's Got Talent. Recently, their recording of "Take on Me" was featured in an episode of the HBO show “The Leftovers.” As educators, they have toured numerous universities presenting workshops, masterclasses, and lectures on musical entrepreneurship.

The performance will be held outdoors under The Sembrich’s lake-side performance tent. We can’t think of a more spectacular setting to see this eclectic and talented ensemble perform than with stunning Lake George as a backdrop.
