On Saturday, December 17, visitors will have an opportunity to go back in time to the end of 1776. We may think of that year in history as the founding of the United States with the Declaration of Independence, but relations were anything but united among the soldiers at Ticonderoga.

From privates to high-ranking officers, tensions between individuals from different states ran rampant in isolated frontier outposts - leading to an armed confrontation on Christmas Day. This violent altercation brought a frosty conclusion as Pennsylvania and Massachusetts soldiers engaged in gunfire and lootings at this lonely post. The gunfire and looting could have easily led to a full-scale revolution had it not been for swift action by men at arms.

Visitors will have a chance to bear witness to this event in a re-enactment and learn more about this tumultuous time in U.S. history. Visit Fort Ticonderoga’s website for more information about this and other Winter session activities.
