Experience the Thrill of an Olympic Biathlon
It began, they say, more than a century ago as a training exercise for Norwegian soldiers. That goes a long way toward explaining how cross-country skiing and riflery met. The result is biathlon, the only sport that involves wax and lead.
Lake Placid is one of the few places to experience this captivating sport year-round. While there is no snow in the Summer and Fall months, the organizers try to simulate the rush biathletes feel as they try to line up a target after a heart-pumping Nordic skiing event.
In this workshop, participants elevate their heart rate through aerobic activity such as biking or hiking. Then, participants step up to the range at the Cross Country Stadium, aim, and fire a 22 rifle or a paintball gun (available for juniors aged 7-12) to test their marksmanship.
